I thought I would play the proud papa and show off my completed Altecs. You can read all about the buildup on my website: My Altec Voice of the Theater pages

Great job! I know that they sound super. I once had a pair of the walnut A7's from Altec. Keep up the good work. Reed

Thanks guys, it was a lot of work, but well worth it. There is nothing like the sound of horns. By the way, the bottlehead foreplay pre sitting on the speaker was a temporary setup for a party. It ran the gain to a FM transmitter that in turn ran my other systems, so they would all play the same music.

    Hi,

Congratulations, it really looks great! Im also in the process of putting my own. However the components i have are 416-8b LF drivers, 311-90 horn and 291-16k HF drivers.

I saw your customized crossover, which is currently my missing link. Im not a DIY'er, but i can ask somebody to do one for me if have some schematics. Would you be able to recommend one? Its kinda tricky since my LF is 8ohms but my HF is at 16 ohms.

    Thanks,
    Giaisa

Build your crossover as if they were both 8 ohms. 16 ohm speakers on the 8 ohm tap will get less power (about 2dB), but damping will be better and distortion lower

Well Done!! They look fantastic! Looking at your website it seems like you have had other Altecs in the past. How do these compare to the others?

    Do you like your foreplay?
